GREENET, Fast forwarding the green transition in just and socially responsible way – cases of industry, energy and transport sectors
The GreenET project aims to ensure a fair and socially responsible transition to a green economy in line with the European Union’s 2030 climate target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% from 1990 levels. While this goal could lead to job losses, or alternatively, create new employment opportunities, it is clear that the right policies are needed to secure a just transition for all workers.
Focusing on the industry, energy, and transport sectors, the project brings together trade unions, employer organizations, and social partners across 10 European countries, including Malta, Poland, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, and others. These partners work collaboratively to promote a green social dialogue that fosters social inclusion and ensures the transition to a carbon-neutral economy is both fair and affordable.
The project aims to strengthen the capacities of cross-sectoral social partners, improve European social dialogue, and ensure that the transition is inclusive, taking into account the challenges posed by energy security, COVID-19, and other socio-economic factors. GreenET will conduct transnational research, trainings, consultative meetings, and national workshops to develop guidelines and trend reports for employers and trade unions.
GreenET aligns with the EU’s Climate Law and supports the implementation of the European Green Deal and REPowerEU initiatives. By promoting dialogue and cooperation between social partners, the project aims to make sure that Europe’s green transition is not only sustainable for the environment, but also equitable for workers and citizens.
